BANGALORE: Common man’s suggestions can soon bring change to the city’s traffic scenario. The city traffic police will soon introduce ‘Citizens Traffic Forum,’ a development- oriented platform, where citizens can walk into traffic police stations and file complaints or suggest measures to improve traffic condition in their locality. The programme will be launched from Saturday, October 15, at all the 39 traffic police stations in city. People can visit the traffic police stations between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm, on every third Saturday of the month, and address traffic problems and offer suggestions.Even the Assistant Commissioners of Police of the respected areas will be a part of this meeting and monitor the process. Following the complaints and suggestions of common people on various social networking sites, the city traffic police have introduced the Forum to streamline the suggestions and implement them.As it is not possible for police to monitor all the suggestions on social networking sites, the police want to make a difference by using a common man’s suggestions and bring effective changes in the city.At the Forum, people can give suggestions related to issues like introducing oneways, parking problems and solutions to traffic congestion. The public can also complaint against traffic police harassing commuters. Meanwhile, the police have also formed a Traffic Advisory and Management Committee at all the 39 traffic police stations. The committee includes citizens who are keen on bringing change to the city’s traffic scenario, members of resident welfare associations, private companies and NGOs.On every third Saturday of the month, members of the committee will meet in the police station and discuss the traffic issues of that area.Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security), Dr M A Saleem, said, “The forum provides an opportunity for a common man to voice his suggestions, opinions and complaints. If the problem falls under the jurisdiction of the police, we will sort it out. Or else, we will bring it to the notice of agencies concerned. We are expecting that the Traffic Forum would yield good results and help in improving city’s traffic conditions.”
