CHENNAI: Did you know who the partially-colour blind owner of the completely blue website is? Or what www.panda.org stands for? The school students who participated in the Chennai edition of the TCS IT Wiz Quiz came up with the answers barely within a couple of seconds. Over 1,424 students participated in the event that was held at the Music Academy on August 18. Six teams made it to the finals. R Adithya and TS Gokul from SBOA, qualified for the national finals, with a marginal lead over the other participating teams. Bala Vidya Mandir came second, with PSBB, KK Nagar, and Hindu Senior Secondary School finishing third. Chettinad Vidyashram did well in the initial rounds, but lost out due to their negative marks. The winning duo from SBOA was smart in loading up on points in the initial crossword puzzle round, not waiting until the tricky buzzer rounds. Hindu Senior Secondary put up a good fight, but their reckless approach cost them the contest. With trumpet blows and drum-rolls for every right answer, Vel Vidyashram, Pallavaram, walked away with the Best Cheering School Award. The first place winners took home Samsung Galaxy Tablets and a digital camera, while the second team walked away with an iPod Touch each. Dr Santhosh Babu, IAS, Secretary to Government, I-T Department, gave away the prizes. Open to students of Classes 8 – 12, the regional rounds of the quiz will be held in 12 Indian cities, with the national finals set to take place in Delhi in December. And if you are still wondering what the answers are to the aforementioned questions, they are Mark Zuckerberg and WWF respectively.
