BANGALORE: It is not uncommon to see a son follow the footsteps of the father, but ‘common sense’ is key. A factor ignored by the father son duo of the Katta family who have just become the latest entrants into an ‘elite club of jailed politicians. Both Katta Subramnya Naidu and his son Katta Jagadish have been sent to jail when their bail plea was rejected by the Lokayukta court, which played a significant role in busting the Junior Katta in September 2010. Jagadish is also a Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike (BBMP) councillor from Vasant Nagar Ward. His antics included passing comments during heated sessions of the council and also indulge in activities unrelated to the council while seated in the house. But the ruling party in the council, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),which sought the immediate suspension of another Congress corporator, who was also caught under similar circumstances will now take the ‘advice of the legal cell’ before they can take any action against their own brethren. Ganesh Mandira Corporators L Govindrajau was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakhs from a private builder and later remanded to more than two weeks in jail before he got his bail.Though the then Mayor S K Natraj and the ruling party had recommended that Govindraju be suspended until investigations are complete, Opposition parties had sought the suspension of Jagadish on the same account. They had even staged a walk out, but in vain. Natraj had also said that he, as the Mayor was not empowered to remove the councilor, but the corporator could do so on moral grounds. “I do not have the full details of the case, but will consult the legal experts and then take suitable action”, incumbent Mayor Sharadamma said.Adding to this, ruling party leader BS Nanjundappa denied that the ruling party had recommended the suspension of Govindraj and said that they would have to consult their ‘legal cell’ and then take immediate action. Congress Floor Leader in the council Udayshankar reiterates, “since both father and son are public representatives, they must resign on moral grounds as it sets a bad example to the people”.
