If you desire to enjoy a variety of breakfast foods such as idli, dosa, chapati, poori, wheat upma, and rava upma and also want to go easy on your pocket, this article is for you. Imagine if such a variety of foods were available for just Rs 10.

A restaurant providing a range of breakfast items in the morning, meals and side dishes in the afternoon, at a low cost for the benefit of the common people is operating with a service-minded approach. This restaurant, called Goumaram Selvam Unavagam, is located in the Ganapathy area of Coimbatore. It is run by Selvam, who started the restaurant to feed people at affordable prices. In this busy part of the city, school students, office workers, and the elderly come to dine.

Here, breakfast items are offered for Rs 10, and unlimited meals for Rs 35 during lunchtime. This allows everyone to eat to their heart’s content. Selvam, who has been running a tent rental business for the past 50 years, started this restaurant just a few months back. He opened this establishment with the idea of expanding this service.

Not only are the customers who dine here benefiting, but also those who take parcels, as the food is offered at the same affordable price. This restaurant has become a boon for college students and daily wage workers.

Regarding the restaurant, owner Selvam said, “I have been in the tent contract business for 50 years. Everyone knows Selvam Tent House. This hotel aims to feed the people. My parents used to provide free food. Even now, hundreds of people are working for us. We couldn’t provide free food to all, but we wanted to do something different. Inspired by an old lady in Vadi Velampalayam who sells idlis for one rupee, we analyzed various places. This restaurant has been running for the past five months. Goumaram Swamis are our spiritual guides. We thought of distributing thousands of idlis in the morning. When we sought blessings from the Swamis, they advised us to do it generously to help the local community.”

“We use our savings from our tent business and receive funds from our organizations and the public. We accept donations as well. We are continuing this service-minded operation in a good way,” he continued.

Approximately a thousand people eat here daily, both in the morning and afternoon. There are about 10-15 breakfast items available for Rs 10 each. Items like dosa, idli, pongal, chapati, and poori are priced at Rs 15. Sambar vada is Rs 15, dahi vada is Rs 20 and variety rice is Rs 20 For parcels, an additional five rupees per item is charged. Meals are Rs 35, but if taken as a parcel, it costs Rs 60 since the portion is enough for two people. “We started offering parcels based on customer requests. Our staff are cooperative and work with a service mindset beyond just the financial aspect,” Selvam explained.
