Three die as car falls into gorge

CHITTOOR: Three persons died and another was grievously injured when a car fell into a deep gorge in Bakarapet ghats in the early hours of Friday. Chandragiri circle inspector M Nagabhushanam said the four-wheeler in which the victims were going on a pilgrimage to Tirumala from Bengaluru lost control and fell into a 30-ft deep gorge after hitting a roadside tree resulting in the instantaneous death of Virupaksha Swamy (50), Chandrasekhar (45) and Thimmaraju (35).Venkatesh (45) was injured in the incident. Swamy was driving the car when the mishap occurred.A person who went to the roadside to answer nature’s call in the morning, noticed the beaming car light first and the vehicle later down in the gorge. He informed the 108 service which in turn alerted the police.
