HYDERABAD: The state government suspended assistant commissioner of prohibition and excise, Tenali, A Hanumantha Rao, for his alleged involvement in collecting bribes from liquor syndicate organisers. During the raid on his house in Visakhapatnam a few days ago, AntiCorruption Bureau (ACB) officials found evidence of his involvement in collecting money from liquor syndicates during the time he worked in the Visakhapatnam.
The suspension order said that it has come to the notice of the competent authority that A Hanumantha Rao colluded with the liquor syndicates and collected 'mamools' from liquor shops. He was arrested on January 28 and remanded to judicial custody by the ninth additional district and sessions judge, Visakhapatnam. "It is considered that his continuance in office will prejudice the investigation. The government, after careful consideration of the available material and having due regard to the circumstances of the case, is satisfied that the criminal charge under investigation was connected with his official position and involves moral turpitude and therefore the government considers it necessary to place Hanumantha Rao under suspension with effect from January 28, the date of his arrest. He shall continue to be under suspension until the conclusion of all the proceedings relating to the criminal charge,'' the go said.
