Tsonga survives five-setter at French Open
The Frenchman beat Daniel Brands of Germany 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (2), 7-5 to reach the second round.

Paris: Eighth-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga rallied to beat Daniel Brands of Germany 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-7 (2), 7-5 on Sunday and reach the second round of the French Open.

Tsonga, who posted his best result at his home Grand Slam last year when he made the last 16 before losing to Juan Martin del Porto, had 16 aces and 67 winners against Brands before closing out the match in three hours and 43 minutes.

Tsonga will next play his good friend and fellow Frenchman Josselin Ouanna, who beat Lukasz Kubot of Poland 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-4.
