Two persons were injured, one due to stabbing and another in firing, when a gang of cattle smugglers allegedly opened firing and attacked the villagers who woke up to stop them at Kama town of Bharatpur district in the wee hours of Tuesday, police said.
Brijesh alias Baniya (33) received bullet wounds in stomach while another Achhu Singh (20) received stabs, SHO of Kama Police Thana A Choudhary told PTI.
The injured were rushed to Agra for treatment, he said.
In a clash with cattle smugglers, who attempted to lift cattle (specially cows) in their pick up truck at Gaya Kund, villagers caught one fleeing smuggler with his bike whereas others fled in the cover of darkness, SHO said.
The accused nabbed by villagers, Rizwan (25), who was also injured in clash was shifted to a local hospital under police custody, he added.
A case under section 307 of IPC for alleged murder was lodged against the smugglers, SHO said.
On a call of villagers , Kama town observed total bandh in which shops remained closed.
