Thiruvanathapuram: Months after a Hindu woman from Kerala moved the high court alleging that she was forcefully converted and married to a Muslim man using forged documents, the Ernakulam rural police on Wednesday arrested two people in connection with the case.
The accused have been identified as Fayas and Siyad, who are relatives of Muhammed Riyas. Riyas is the person whom the girl alleges she was fraudulently married to.
The arrested duo have been charged with various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Section 120 (B) of the IPC.
Police said that they helped Mohammed Riyas, the key accused in the case.
The woman, 25, had moved the HC in November 2017. In her petition to the HC, she mentioned that Riyas, a native of New Mahe, near Thalassery, had taken her to Saudi Arabia and had plans to take her to Syria thereafter, to be sold as a sex slave to ISIS.
The girl is a native of Kerala but was born and brought up in Gujarat. She met Mohammed Riyas in 2013 when she was studying in Bengaluru. Their friendship soon blossomed into a relationship. The girl alleges that the man recorded their private video and then used it to blackmail her.
Riyas used the video to put pressure on her to convert and marry him. V Sethunath, counsel for the girl, said that Riyas's mother was also hand-in-glove with him. The woman claims she was sent for religious classes and was also forced to watch Zakir Naik's video.
Post her marriage, the girl went back to her family in Gujarat.
