PARLAKHEMUNDI:  Two women Maoists of Ghumshar Division surrendered before the Gajapati SP here on Thursday. They have been identified as Martha Majhi (20) alias Minita of Ludingi village and Mary Majhi (18) alias Kabita of Lamdang village under Mohona block of Gajapati district.
Information provided by them led to the seizure of huge amount of arms and ammunition dumped near Purunapani village. The recovered items includes two SBML guns, two 8mm single shot pistols, five claymore mines, one grenade, electrical detonator, a kg of ammonium nitrate explosive, 6 volt battery and a battery charger, said Gajapati SP Sarthak Sarangi. The two allegedly were given minor tasks and abused by male cadres for small mistakes. Moreover, they were unable to bear the hardship of training and movement in difficult terrain, he added.

According to police, Martha was motivated into joining the organisation as a minor in April 2007 by S S Panda and Azad. She covered almost all villages under Daringabadi, Sorada, Bramhanigaon and Adaba police station limits and had undergone training at Gochha Bijapur and Nepapedi. She was involved in the bus burning incident at Raipanka and explosion at Katingia police outpost.

She was involved in Raipanka bus burning and Birikot liquor joint burning incidents.
