'Ugly Betty', America Ferrera ties the knot
The actress married filmmaker Ryan Piers Williams, her long-time boyfriend

Los Angeles: America Ferrera, the actress who played the leading character in the television series 'Ugly Betty', has married filmmaker Ryan Piers Williams, her long-time boyfriend, the online edition of People magazine said on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old actress and Williams were married on Monday night in "an intimate setting amongst close friends and family", Ferrera's agent told the magazine.

Among the wedding guests were Ferrera's "Ugly Betty" co-star Vanessa Williams, along with actress Rebecca Romijn and her husband, actor Jerry O'Connell, and Blake Lively.

The couple got engaged in June 2010, years after they first met in college, where Williams chose Ferrera to star in his student film at USC.

That was the 2007 short subject Muertas (Dead Women), about the many women murdered in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Later the two joined forces again on Williams' first feature film, The Dry Land (2010), a drama about the post-traumatic stress disorder of soldiers who face their toughest battle when they return home from the front.

"We kind of connected from the get-go on that professional level and that was something that really drew us to each other," Ferrera told People after her engagement, "a shared passion for what we do and our work".

Ferrera, born in the US to Honduran parents, won a Golden Globe, an Emmy and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role as Betty Suarez in "Ugly Betty".
