UN chief says 'deeply saddened' by Pak bombing
The suicide bombings on Wednesday targeted officers of the region's Frontier Corps and left over 27 dead.

United Nations: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has condemned the suicide bombings in the Pakistani city of Quetta, saying he is "deeply saddened" by the continued loss of Pakistani lives at the hands of terrorism.

The suicide bombings on Wednesday targeted officers of the region's Frontier Corps and left over 27 dead, including two children, and wounded many others.

"The Secretary-General extends his deep condolences to the families of the victims and the government of Pakistan," a spokesperson for Ban said in a statement.

Ban "commends the efforts of the Pakistani Government to combat terrorism and wishes to re-confirm the solidarity of the United Nations with the people of Pakistan to that end," the statement added.

The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was to avenge the arrest of senior al Qaeda leader Younis al-Mauritani believed to be responsible for planning attacks on the US, Europe and Australia.
