UP Lokayukta mulls action against minister
The Ombudsman took serious note of the presence of the names of the minister's 28 family members in voters' list.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta N K Mehrotra has taken a serious note of the presence of names of 28 family members of Minister for Science and Technology Abdul Mannan and his MLC brother in the voters' list of two assembly constituencies of Hardoi district.

The report from the District Magistrate of Hardoi confirms that the names of about 28 family members of Abdul Mannan and his MLC brother Abdul Hannan were included in the voters' list of two Vidhan Sabha constituencies, Sandila and Balamau, Mehrotra told PTI on Wednesday.

The Lokayukta who is probing allegations of land grabbing, amassing disproportionate wealth and getting the names of his family members included in the voters' lists of more than one constituency said that he was contemplating what action needed to be taken in connection with the case.

The complaint was filed by Anurag Tripathi, a resident of Sandila, who accused the minister and his brother of acquiring real estate properties worth crores of rupees in Hardoi, Lucknow, Ghaziabad and Bareilly.

The Lokayukta said that the 28 names were also in the voters' lists of three gram panchayats.

Mehrotra said that both the DM and the minister had submitted identical replies on the issue which indicated that there was an attempt to keep the facts hidden.

They have said that since there was still some time left for Assembly elections, the mistake would be rectified but the question is why it had not been done so far, Mehrotra added.
