Vallur-I Plant to be Tamil New Year gift?

CHENNAI: The first unit (1 x 500 MW) of the TNEB Limited-NTPC joint venture thermal power station at Vallur in north Ch-ennai here is likely to go on stream on April 14, the Tamil New Year’s Day. Sources told Express that the test run of the first unit of the Vallur power plant (1 x 500 MW) has been completed successfully. The major task of providing a multi-circuit overhead line (400KV) linking the plant with the Nellore-Alamathy-Sriperumbudur 400 KV double circuit transmission line was completed last year.The second unit is likely to go operational soon after the first unit. The op-erationalisation of the pr-oject is to bring relief to power starved TN.
