Velammal chief returns land to dalit woman

MADURAI: Velammal Institutions Chairman MV Muthuramalingam has returned the custody of the land usurped  from a Dalit woman here.  According to police, a case was slapped against Muthuramalingam and his accomplices, personal assistant Thirupathi Venkatesan and contractor Vijay Anand for usurping the land worth Rs 1.5 crore from one Samayal of Anupanadi. The land sprawling across 1.43 acres was in proximus to Velammal Village near Anupanadi. The accused in the case had bought over 60 acres engulfing the land belonging to the Dalit woman and had been exerting pressure on her to sell off it for a paltry sum.
