KARIMNAGAR: Devotees at Vemulawada temple are forced to be content with taking shower in the place of holy bath what with the temple tank (dharma gundam) getting dried up. The Devasthanam officials have arranged 50 shower faucets on the temple premises and are supplying water through tankers to enable devotees have the holy dip.Being Monday, an auspicious day for worshipping Lord Siva, hundreds of devotees have thronged the temple since Sunday night as they can have the darshan early. Moreover, the supermoon phenomenon that occurred Sunday also attracted pilgrims to the temple. On knowing about the shortage of water in the temple, some devotees have dropped the idea of making a night stay on the temple premises. “After watching the supermoon, I and my family went to a lodge in Karimnagar and stayed there on Sunday night. We came to the temple this morning for having the darshan,” said Vemula Rajeshwar, a devotee from Warangal.Due to shortage of water, about 50 percent of the rooms in Nandishwara and Lakshmi Ganapathi cottages are remaining empty.According to the temple authorities, nearly 3 lakh litres of water is required everyday. On Monday and Friday, the requirement is even more. Presently, we are providing 70 tankers of water (about 2.80 lakh litres) to devotees spending `318 on each tanker, temple executive officer T Appa Rao said and urged devotees to use water sparingly. “I could not take bath at least under shower as there was heavy rush,” said P Venkatesh, a devotee from Karimnagar.
