THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A three-minute campus film on how love blooms courtesy a faulty scooter, a 25-minute documentary laced with the lilting poetry of D Vinayachandran on forests and a 12-minute short film on terrorism are among the 55 works that will be featured at a video festival that will open here on December 1.The festival, which will be on till December 4, is being organised at Museum Auditorium by the Confederation of Television Artistes, Commercial Operators and Technicians (CONTACT). This is the fourth edition of the CONTACT festival, CONTACT president Vijayakrishnan and general secretary Mohammed Shah told a press conference here.The works will be presented in the following categories; short film, documentary, campus, album, animation and home cinema.‘The Gift’, a two-minute animation by Sanandaraj, warns of the dangers of picking up strange articles from public places. The 48-minute ‘Yathabhagam’ is a tribute to the late poet A Ayyappan. Produced by Odessa Movies, the documentary is directed by Sathyan Odessa.‘Golden Fibre’, another documentary, is about the coir industry, while ‘Vellayaniyude Vilapam’ discusses the environmental problems faced by the Vellayani Lake in Thiruvananthapuram district.In the home cinema category, the 112-minute ‘Theevravadi’ relates the tale of how a terrorist bent on destroying a dam in a village deceives the villagers. ‘Ummayillengil’, directed by Munavir Thalakkadathur, discusses the social evil of ‘Mysore Kalyanam’, while ‘Darpanam’ is about the mysterious disappearance of a tutorial college teacher.There are some interesting entries in the short film category such as ‘Habit’, which reflects on the often irritating habits of individuals through a restaurant scene.The works will be screened from 10 am to 9 pm daily. Director R Sharath will inaugurate the festival at 5.30 pm on December 1. Former Culture Minister MA Baby will inaugurate the valedictory ceremony on December 4, where the prizes will be distributed.
