In a bid to teach them a lesson, angry residents of Koppal town in Karnataka pushed two municipal engineers into a water-logged pothole after an elderly motorist fell into it on Monday morning and sustained minor injuries.

The motorist, a retired solider named Mallappa was passing by on his scooter through Kote Road when his bike skid and slipped into the pothole which overtime had turned into a ditch.

Two engineers who arrived on the spot had to face the ire of the locals who had gathered in the area post the incident.

In a video clipping that surfaced later, Junior Engineer Sunil and another engineer can be seen jostling with the locals as they push them into the ditch.

Locals even held their arms and lowered them further into the muck, before helping them out.

Earlier, bystanders rushed to the motorist Mallappa's aid and pulled him out after he sustained minor injuries during the fall.

The water filled ditch was formed when a portion of the ongoing underground drainage work on the road collapsed.

Their main complaint was that work for the underground drainage has been going on for years with no results.
