Mumbai: Sony's water-proof and dust-proof treatment for the Xperia Z has earned the company many fans and it seems that particular feature is set to be endowed to many smartphones from the Japanese electronic giant's stable as well.
If rumours are to be believed, Sony will launch another weather-proof phone, the Xperia ZR later this year. Word of this mystery handset comes courtesy of the Xperia Blog, who claim to have it on "good authority" that the Xperia ZR is in the works.
There are no images of the phone to go with the rumoured specs, so this could very well be the imagination of a Sony fanboy at work.
So what's so special about the Xperia ZR besides the rumoured IP55/58 certification. Well, not much. From the specs sheet, the ZR looks to be an elder sibling of the Xperia SP, which was just launched in India.
The Xperia ZR is supposedly codenamed Dogo and if we look at Sony's smartphone launches last year, it could debut at IFA in Berlin in September.
Xperia ZR will allegedly have a 4.6-inch 720p display instead of the 5-inch 1080p behemoth on the Xperia Z. Under the hood will be a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm S4 Pro SoC, which is now bettered by the Snapdragon 600.
