For the most part till its release, '3' garnered publicity like no other movie, be it for its cult song Kolaveri Di, for the casting and for being the directorial debut of Aishwarya Rajinikanth. But after it hit the screens in late March, the bad press that the movie earned has been equally stunning — the reception it got from certain sections of the audience, claims of loss and compensation by film distributor Natty Kumar, Rajini’s statement absolving himself from the movie, and, most recently, producer Kasthoori Raja’s statement that Rajini need not have issued that statement.
Clarifying his stance, Kasthoori Raja told City Express, "Though we are related, we (Rajini and I) do not interfere in each other's business. This is my film, and Dhanush has acted in it. That's all. When Rajini sir and I meet usually, it is for family. Not for work. We do not interfere in each other’s business."
Speaking about the Superstar's involvement in the film, he said, "Just because he is a big name here, it doesn't mean he can be involved with this film. Linking Rajini with the movie is the work of Natty Kumar only. Also, I only said I did not know what prompted Rajini sir to issue a statement that he was not involved with the film."
The producer reiterated that the claims of Natty Kumar that the film’s audio rights had been sold to him and to Sony Music were false. Kumar had recently claimed compensation for the losses he incurred with 3" and had even filed a complaint in Hyderabad against hero Dhanush and director Aishwarya.
