Woman kills husband with sons help, both arrested

Police on Wednesday arrested a 45-year-old woman, Uma, and her 25-year-old son, Chandran, for allegedly hacking her 60-year-old husband, Victor, to death and burying his body behind their house at Anna Nagar in Pasumathur.

Police exhumed the body on Wednesday in the presence of Katpadi Tasildar Rajendran and conducted a post-mortem on the spot.

The murder came to light on Tuesday when Victor’s second wife Uma and her son Chandran surrendered before the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of Pasumathur, Murugesan, and confessed the crime.

The police converted the man missing case, which was filed by Victor’s brother Vikram, into a murder case and registered a case against Uma and Chandran under Section 302 and 201 of IPC. While Uma was remanded to the Special Prison for Women, Chandran was lodged in Vellore Central prison for Men under judicial custody after being produced before the Judicial Magistrate in Katpadi.

Uma developed an illegal affair with one Mahalingam of Jammakuppam village and had eloped with him to Mysore a year ago. However, she returned to Pasumathur 20 days ago following frequent quarrels with Mahalingam.

After she returned home, neighbours and Chandran convinced Victor to forgive Uma. Though he started to live with her, he frequently picked up quarrels with her, investigating officer B Chandra Sekaran said.
