Woman seeks sons release from custody of hubbys family

A woman is seeking custody of her son from her husband’s relatives. Shini, daughter of Akampadam native Valayil Raveendran, alleges that her husband’s relatives tortured her and her two kids along with her parents for 10 days in their family home at Secundarabad. Her elder son Akshay, 2, is in her custody.

Shini’s husband R Govardan, a Secundarabad native, died on July 22 in Chennai, where they had been staying.   Relatives of her husband invited her and her parents to his native place in Secundarabad, saying that the presence of Govardan’s widow was needed for the posthumous rituals which lasted for 10 days. While they were staying there, they tortured her, her children and the parents. They beat up Shini several times and after the completion of the rituals they threw her out of the house along with her one-month-old son Abhiram and her parents.

“They forcefully took my elder son, Akhshay. They threatened me that they would kill my parents and me if we stayed there and demanded the release of Akshay. I had no other choice but to leave the town to save the lives of my parents.  If I had stayed there for my son, they would have murdered me and my family,” Shini said.

Shiny has sent memorandum to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and MLA Aryadan Muhammed seeking their intervention in the issue. She has also filed a complaint in the court.

Govardan’s family also took her marriage certificates, professional certificates and gold ornaments along with some money. Now they are demanding the flat she has in Chennai.  “They need my wealth, I know that. I am ready to give everything to them but I want my son back,” Shini said.
