A woman, who had accused senior bureaucrat JP Joshi of raping her after promising her a job, on Friday surrendered in a local court in connection with a blackmailing case lodged against her and three others by the suspended official, currently in jail.

The Uttarakhand High Court, while hearing a petition by the woman seeking a stay on her arrest in the blackmailing case last week, had asked her to surrender in a court within a week.

Complying with the high court's order, the woman surrendered in the court of the judicial magistrate in Dehradun and was sent to 14 days' in judicial custody. A case of blackmailing had been filed by Joshi against the woman and three others soon after she lodged a case accusing him of raping her on the promise of getting her a job in the tourism department.

During investigations police found that the woman, along with her accomplices, made an obscene CD purportedly showing her in a compromising position with Joshi. The woman was arrested on December 6 but was released as she was on transit bail after deposit of a personal bond of Rs 25,000.
