World Series Hockey appoints Technical Director
Former FIH Competitions and Events Manager Dennis Meredith has joined as Technical Director.

Mumbai: World Series Hockey, a joint initiative of Nimbus Sports and the Indian Hockey Federation, has roped in former FIH Competitions and Events Manager Dennis Meredith of Australia as its Technical Director.

The 65-year-old former player and international umpire is currently on the FIH list of Tournament Directors for world-level events, according to sources.

He has also been appointed as the TD for the forthcoming Oceania Cup (the Oceania qualifying tournament for the Olympics), to be played in Hobart in early October this year.

Meredith, who played in 22 ties for Australia, was responsible for the coordination of the hockey events at the Athens and Beijing Olympics.

He was also responsible for making recommendations concerning approvals for all international invitational events held throughout the world and, in addition, also oversaw the appointments of technical officials and umpires, match schedules, compliance with regulations and contracts, etc. for all these events.

He became involved at the bidding process, made recommendations to the Executive Board on re-allocation of tournaments, conducted pre-inspection visits at venues and attended events to provide assistance and advice during the tournaments.

He has been involved with India over a long period of time, in varying roles as an umpire, umpire coach, administrator etc.

Through hockey he has travelled extensively in India, including conducting development programs for umpires, umpire coaches and technical officials, the sources added.

The first edition of WSH is to be held in December-January.
