HYDERABAD: Youth have been a major component of the Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement and city youngsters are certainly doing their bit to support him. One such group called the Anna Team has been visiting colleges to spread awareness about the Lokpal Bill. As a result, the candlelight march at the People’s Plaza on Thursday saw about 400 students participating in the march against corruption.The Anna Team comprises of seven people— Vishal Chandra, the founder, Harika Pidikiti, Zainab Siddique, Ankur Agarwal, Vikram Molala, Prodeepta Mukherjee and Habiba Siddique. “Though all of us come from different backgrounds, we have united for the same cause,” says Harika Pidikiti. To expand the support, they have been campaigning in colleges and public places to bring more youth power into the protest. “We have campaigned in colleges like St Francis, Villa Marie, Shadan and Vijay Marie and in public places like Lifestyle and Eatstreet,” says Pidikiti adding, “Everybody is participating out of interest. We can bring change in the system.” Vikram Molala who was surprised and excited by the turnout said, “We did not hope so many students will turn up. We are also receiving calls from many youngsters who want to extend their support to us.” To educate people about the Lokpal Bill, the team has been giving away handouts containing information about the bill. “The hand-outs and flyers have essential facts about the bill, how will it help common man and the main issues with the system,” says Ankur Agarwal. Zainab Siddique says, “We will be here every evening till Anna fasts. It is not just standing up for him but standing up for yourself.” Another participant in the rally, Rajan Chopra said, “I take pride in being associated with the cause to get rid of corruption.”
