AIFWAW16, Day 2: Samant Chauhan's dramatic Silk Route-based show makes for a unique sight

New Delhi: Fashion is back in business with the onset of Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2016. While there was clearly no dearth of ravishing collection on Day 2, Samant Chauhan’s presentation ‘Silk Route’ was simply enchanting!

Inspired by the silk route along Nepal, Tibet and China; Samrat's collection was titled as 'Rajputana'. Yes, we also had a collection ‘From Gujarat with Love’ that managed to evoke the traditional aura of our country on Day 2, but Samant’s showcase couldn’t have represented the culture in a better way.

Traversing thousands of miles, through uncharted deserts, over steep mountain passes, exposed to supreme weathers, to wild animals, the designer presented his series of designs at the ongoing 27thedition of Amazon India Fashion Week.

The Delhi-based designer is known for his simple yet exquisite silhouettes. From vivid prints to vibrant colors; there wasn't even a single thing that can be termed as over-the-top in his collection. Needless to say, this time his creativity has bought the patterns of medal work on silk to the forefront indefinitely. "This autumn Rajputana collection showcased my journey to places like Nepal, Tibet and China covered with wild and exotic landscape. My idea is to show how this group of fearless people with their sheer grit and courage manage to survive the harsh weather conditions and avert any hostile attacks," the designer told the reporters post his show.

The ensembles included shades of olive green, brown, grey, peach and was pretty much dominated by dull gold at all times. Front open jackets, A-line jackets, dresses teamed up with pants, flared gowns, kaftans, saree, peplums; you name it and this collection had it! Yes, it was nothing less than a perfect snowfall scene straight out of a textbook that they created on the ramp.

It’s not just his designs and intricate embellishments that managed to garner a favorable response from the audience, but the uniqueness his team bought on the ramp on Thursday is indeed commendable.

From setting up a fake snowfall on the runway to instilling trees at just the right places; Samant Chauhan’s dramatic exhibit is definitely going to enter the best ones to have ever been presented at AIFW.
