According to the Vedic calendar, the month of Ashadha will begin on Sunday, June 23. The Ekadashi tithi of the Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month is known as Devshayani Ekadashi or Vishnushayani Ekadashi. However, if Adhimaas is added in a year, there are 26 Ekadashi fasts.
Ekadashi Tithi is considered to be of special importance in Hinduism. Fasting on this day brings happiness, peace, and prosperity in life. But Devshayani Ekadashi is considered to be the most different among them and has its own special significance. The Devshayani Ekadashi falls on the eleventh day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadha. According to religious beliefs, the saviour of the world, Lord Vishnu, goes to sleep for four months from this auspicious day, which is known as Chaturmas.
Kashi astrologer, Pandit Sanjay Upadhyay, said that on Devshayani Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu goes into Yog Nidra, after which he stays in this state in Kshira Sagara for four months. After these months, he wakes up on the day of Prabodhini Ekadashi. Therefore, during these months, all kinds of auspicious works are completely stopped.
When is Devshayani Ekadashi?
Pandit Sanjay Upadhyay said that according to the Vedic calendar, the Ekadashi date of Ashadha Shukla Paksha will start on July 16 at 5:08 pm, which will continue till the next day, i.e., July 17 at 5:56 pm. In such a situation, according to the Udayatithi, Devshayani Ekadashi will be celebrated on July 17. On this auspicious day, worshipping Lord Vishnu will remove all your troubles.
Pandit Upadhyay said that on the day of Devshayani Ekadashi, after taking a bath in the morning, one should meditate on Lord Vishnu and take a vow to fast. After that, one should fast by abstaining from food for the whole day and worshipping Lord Vishnu. By observing fast on this day, devotees will be blessed with a happy and fulfilling life.
