How Indian Railways Takes Measures To Prevent Theft Of Fans And Bulbs In Trains
You must have noticed that the number of thefts of fans and lights in trains have decreased. Here’s why.

The railways supply only 110 volts of electricity for the fans in trains. After stealing such appliances, the worth of it won’t be more than that of a scrap. It can be used only in matters related to trains and railways. At the same time charging on these 110-volt power chargers is a bit difficult. The train passengers have been allowed to charge cell phones and laptops with the socket present at the side of the seats. The drawback of serving 110 volts in trains can lead to slow charging of phones and chargers. At least 100 volts of electricity is sufficient for chargers for devices such as cell phones and laptops used by people today. It requires 230 volts of electricity to operate at full speed.

Many mixers and grinders in use today only work on at least 210 volts of electricity. The main reason why railways supply 110 volts, instead of 230 volts, is to prevent theft. Most thieves are already aware of these rules and hence they avoid stealing fans and lights from trains. On the other hand, the train is a national asset. If someone is caught stealing any items then they can be booked under section 380 if convicted.
