But one more reason can be a baker cyst because of which you feel pain and swelling in the knee and difficulty sitting and walking. People who have crossed the age of 40 have a higher chance of getting baker cysts.

Dr CP Pal an Orthopedic surgeon, and a prof from Government Medical College explained that a baker cyst is a soft lump filled with fluid that occurs in the back part of the knee. The appearance of this cyst people feel a lot of pain and swelling developing around the lump making it difficult to bend the knee. Due to this stiffness and pain occurs in the knee.

Cause of the baker cyst

Baker cyst is mainly caused by arthritis or any old injury. Because of the old injury muscle around the knee gets damaged due to which fluid starts coming out. One more reason can be due to the blood clot at the back part of the knee. However, this problem can be treated by doing operations or medicines, but it is important to recognise it at the right time and will help you get over this problem.

Treatment

Dr CP Pal suggested that this cyst gets treated on its own sometimes, but if the problems continue then you need treatment to cure the cyst. In this case, the doctors take out the cyst by inserting an injection into the lump. The lumps come out, get dried up after sometimes and get cured.

Physical therapy

The doctor will suggest you do some exercise and get some therapy, through the exercise the lump will get relief and will also relieve stiffness and pain. Doing exercise will make your knee flexible. Apart from this putting ice on the lump will also help get rid of the pain.
