The month of Kharmas, marked by a halt in auspicious activities, is set to begin on December 16, 2023, with the Sun transitioning from Scorpio to Sagittarius at 3:50 pm. This period will extend until January 15, 2024. Renowned astrologer Swami Kanhaiya Maharaj from the Kashi Shani temple sheds light on the significance of this time.
Swami Kanhaiya Maharaj explains that during Kharmas, the Sun’s pace slows as it engages in servicing the Guru, impacting both the Sun and Jupiter. As a result, various activities, not limited to weddings, are discouraged. Initiating new ventures, celebrating house entry, mundane, Upanayana Sanskar, and purchasing new vehicles should all be avoided.
Post the conclusion of Kharmas in January, there emerge several auspicious dates for marriages, including the 17th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 27th, 30th, and 31st of January 2024, offering believers seven favourable days for weddings. Swami Kanhaiya Maharaj encourages the resumption of mundan celebrations and other significant events after this period.
It is crucial to note that Kharmas itself is not inherently inauspicious. The caution against commencing new ventures or engaging in auspicious activities during this time stems from the belief that the Sun is weakened during its transition into Sagittarius. In Hindu tradition, a strong Sun position is considered optimal for launching successful endeavours. Therefore, events such as housewarmings and weddings are advised to be scheduled before the onset of Karmas to avoid potential negative effects during this weakened solar state.
