There is no denying the fact that actor Aamir Khan has shown huge versatility when it comes to the characters he has chosen to play on the big screen. From Raj (Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak) to Bhuvan (Lagaan), Amar (Andaz Apna Apna) and Mahavir Singh Phogat (Dangal), Khan has rarely played the same type of role twice, and that’s why he continues to stand out from the crowd. Also known for being one of those few celebrities who shun award functions, Khan was recently seen at Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Awards after he received a special invite from legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.
Yes, Khan - who has stayed away from award shows for the last 16 years - showed no qualms in making an exception. The actor, as reports suggest, was honoured for his stupendous work in Dangal. He received the award from RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film puts forth an inspirational story of former Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trains his daughters Geeta and Babita to become world-class wrestlers.
Khan was honoured with Vishesh Puraskar at the awards ceremony.
The ceremony was also special because it observed the 75th death anniversary of Mangeshkar's father. This was also the time when Mangeshkar began singing in films. Mangeshkar also honoured legendary actress Vyjayanthimala.
Khan had last attended the Academy Awards when Lagaan was nominated in the Best Film category – about 16 years ago.
