The long-awaited reunion is finally taking place as filmmaker Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar are teaming up for a new film, bankrolled by Ekta Kapoor. Priyadarshan has disclosed that this new project will focus on comedy with an added touch of ‘horror and fantasy.’
While speculations about their collaboration have been circulating for some time, Priyadarshan has now officially confirmed the partnership. He mentioned wrapping up his docu-series on the Ram Mandir’s history and is all set to begin work on what he describes as his ‘most important film.”
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Priyadarshan stated that he is commencing work on a horror fantasy film with Akshay Kumar, produced by Ekta Kapoor, blending elements of humor into the narrative. He shared, “Now that I am done with my docu-series on the Ram Mandir’s history, my most important film on which I am beginning work is the one with Akshay, produced by Ekta Kapoor. It is a horror fantasy with humour.”
When questioned if this upcoming film will resemble Bhool Bhulaiyaa, their acclaimed horror comedy, Priyadarshan clarified that while Bhool Bhulaiyaa was a psychological thriller, the new project will be rooted in fantasy, incorporating elements of black magic, one of India’s oldest superstitions, “That was a psychological thriller, but this one will be fantasy, in the backdrop of black magic, the oldest superstition of India. It is always a pleasure collaborating with Akshay. From our first film, to this one, it has always turned out well with him, he handles the emotions so well. I was waiting for a good subject to get back with him, and this one I feel will be that,” the filmmaker added.
The director expressed his delight at collaborating with Akshay once again, highlighting the actor’s adeptness at portraying emotions. He mentioned eagerly anticipating the right script to reunite with Akshay, and believes this film will be that perfect opportunity.
Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan have a history of successful collaborations, including movies like Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, and De Dana Dan. Their previous project together was Khatta Meetha in 2010.
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar, despite facing a slump at the box office, has a busy schedule ahead with projects like Sarfira, Sky Force, Welcome to the Jungle, Shankara, Khel Khel Mein, and more.
