Barbie Star Ryan Gosling Wishes To Perform I’m Just Ken At Oscars
Ryan Gosling expressed his willingness to perform I'm Just Ken at the Oscars but the organizers haven't approached him yet.

In 2023, the Barbie movie emerged as an unexpected powerhouse, as the film based on the iconic doll dominated the box office and became one of the highest-earning films of the year. Despite the film’s success, the Oscars raised eyebrows by overlooking director Greta Gerwig and lead star Margot Robbie in their nominations. Ryan Gosling, who played Ken, didn’t hold back his disappointment and he openly criticized the nominations.

Apart from Ryan’s Ken-ergetic performance, his song I’m Just Ken became a rage among movie enthusiasts and in a recent interview with Variety, Gosling expressed his willingness to perform the catchy track during the Oscars ceremony. However, he revealed that despite his enthusiasm, the organizers haven’t approached him for the performance, however, he acknowledged that there might be risks associated with his participation on the prestigious stage.

He said, “I still have not been asked. It might be too much of a risk to have me do it. I don’t know how that would work. But I’m open to it.” However, he feels sceptical about singing the song on the biggest Hollywood stage and night. Meanwhile, Robbie tells him, “Don’t worry. We’re poking Ryan whenever we can: ‘Do it. Come on. It’ll be fun.” Interestingly, if he gets invited to perform, Ken will finally get his moment as Barbie will be cheering for him in the audience, which excites both Gosling and Robbie. The actress adds, “I would love nothing more. That would make me and the world so happy.”

If Ryan Gosling performs I’m Just Ken at the Oscars, he won’t be alone, as Mark Ronson, the producer of the Barbie soundtrack might also join him for the live performance. In the same conversation, Ronson expressed his eagerness for Gosling to perform the song and stated that it would be a dream come true for him.

Meanwhile, the La La Land star feels playing Ken was the most challenging role in his career. He initially declined the offer due to scheduling conflicts, but later, he eventually accepted the part and deeply researched the character. Describing it as a “high wire act, in tiny shorts and no shirt, with no net,’ Gosling took the challenge with limited backstory beyond aesthetics. However, Gosling took inspiration from his own childhood experiences. Determined not to ruin the iconic role, he pushed himself beyond limits and ensured that he wouldn’t be remembered as the one who spoiled the Barbie movie.
