Barun Sobti became a household name when he essayed the role of Arnav Singh Raizada in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? alongside Sanaya Irani in 2011. He became one of the most hit actors on Indian television after this serial. However, he decided to quit television in 2017. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about why he left television all of a sudden.
In a conversation with Digital Commentary, Barun Sobti mentioned how television paid more priority to money rather than creativity. He talked about how he was dissatisfied with the quality of writing in television and how it was not in line with his long-term goals. The actor said, “I haven’t done it in a long time. TV is a very capitalistic medium. When capital goes ahead of creativity, then it becomes a little unsatisfactory. And the characters start overliving their span, and the quality of writing goes really down. I always wanted to invest in longevity. I do not believe in investing in the short term.”

Sobti also talked about how he does not like social media much but he is only active because his agency asks him to promote his work online. The actor continued, “I don’t do PR, I don’t do anything. Whenever a show comes out, that is when I come out to promote it. My agency keeps nagging me about my Instagram. You just cannot hide something that is good. If you are good, people will see you.”
The actor starred in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon 3 in 2017. That was the last television show he worked on. After a stint in television serials, Sobti made his way to movies and OTT. On OTT, he was seen in Netflix’s Kohrra which went on to become his breakthrough OTT project. He was last seen in SonyLIV’s Raat Jawaan Hai.
