Fahadh Faasil-starrer Bougainvillea was released in theatres worldwide on October 17. Based on the novel Ruthinte Lokam by Lajo Jose, the film is directed by Amal Neerad. Apart from versatile actor Fahadh Faasil, the film features Kunchacko Boban, Jyothirmayi, Sharaf U Dheen, Veea Nandakumar and Srinda in the prominent roles. This crime thriller had an impressive opening collection at the box office. The film has received mixed reviews from viewers and critics. As per reports, the film collected Rs 3.3 crore with a limited number of screens in India. It earned the highest in Kerala.

The worldwide collection of the film on the first day stands at Rs 6.85 crore. It had an overall 43.37 percent occupancy in Kerala theatres on its first day. The night shows earned the highest, followed by evening, morning and afternoon shows. On the second day, the film earned Rs 2.15 crore in India. The Amal Neerad-directorial revolves around Royce and Reethu (Kunchacko and Jyothirmai), a happy couple whose lives change after an accident leaves Reethu with mental health challenges. Unusual events happen after ACP David Koshy (Fahadh Faasil) steps in to investigate the mysterious disappearances of tourists in Kerala.

While many fans praised the thriller for its plot and performances, some have also called it drab and underwhelming in comparison to its source novel.

Sharing his views on the movie, an X user wrote, “Amal Neerad delivers a clean psychological thriller which gets gripping towards the climax. The whole cast shines. Seeing Kunchacko in the 2nd half was a beauty. Jyothirmai was perfect for the role. Sushin was top notch as usual.”

Another wrote, “Bougainvillea 1st half: Slow-burn thriller with Kunchacko & Jyothirmayi. Fahadh Faasil’s cop brings suspense. Maravikale hints at hidden secrets. Suspense builds nicely.”

Fahadh Faasil will be next seen in Pushpa 2.
