Celina Jaitly Says She Was Blamed After Boys Harassed Her in School: 'Man Flashed His Private Parts...'
In response to the tragic rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata, Celina Jaitly has shared her personal harassment experience and victim-shaming from her school days.

In the wake of the horrifying rape and murder of a young doctor in Kolkata, the country has been engulfed in outrage, with protests and calls for justice sweeping across social media. Celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Hrithik Roshan have joined the chorus condemning the incident. Amidst this outcry, actress Celina Jaitly shared her own harrowing experiences of harassment and victim-shaming from her school days.

Taking to social media, Celina shared an old photo and also recounted how, even as a young girl in grade six, she was subjected to harassment by boys from a nearby university who would wait outside her school and follow her rickshaw home, making catcalls. She described how their behaviour escalated to the point where they began throwing stones at her to get her attention, yet no one intervened. Shockingly, instead of receiving support, Celina was blamed by a teacher who told her that her “westernized” appearance and lack of modesty were the reasons for the harassment.

She wrote, “THE VICTIM IS ALWAYS AT FAULT : In this pic I was in 6th grade only when boys from a nearby university started to wait outside my school. They would follow the school rickshaw making catcalls all the way home everyday. I pretended not to notice them and few days later because of that they started throwing stones at me in the middle of the road to get my attention. Not one bystander batted an eye.” The actress continued,”It was because I was “too westernised and did not wear loose clothes and did not tie my hair in two braids with oil it was my fault !”

Celina also revealed a deeply distressing incident where a man exposed himself to her while she waited for her school rickshaw, an experience that left her blaming herself for years, thanks to the toxic messaging she had received. “It was also at this age when a man first flashed his private parts to me while waiting for the school rickshaw in the morning. For many years I blamed myself for this incident which I kept to myself running the words of the teacher again and again in my mind that it was MY FAULT!” she wrote.

In her post, Celina issued a powerful call to action, urging society to recognize that the fault never lies with the victim, “It’s time to stand up and ask for our right to be protected WE ARE NOT AT FAULT ! #kolkatadoctordeath #kolkata #womensrights #celinajaitly #JusticeForMoumita #KolkataDoctor #KolkataNirbhaya,” her post concluded.
