Censor Board Refuses to Clear Udta Punjab
The recent controversy surfaces amidst the demand by multiple filmmakers that the CBFC should stop acting like moral police.

Mumbai: If recent reports are anything to go by then the Censor Board members aren’t happy with the Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s upcoming film ‘Udta Punjab’. The film, which has been directed by Abhishek Choubey, hasn’t been able to get Censor Board's approval. The reason? Nonstop usage of cuss words.

Even though the makers have made efforts to persuade the examining committee (EC) about the significance and relevance of the dialogues used, the decision remains unchanged. This is why the makers have now approached Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT).

A few months back, a committee headed by popular filmmaker Shyam Benegal was set up by the I&B Ministry to upgrade the outdated Cinematograph Act of 1952.
