Devara: Saif Ali Khan Reveals Jr NTR 'Offered to Cook' for Him, Says 'Tarak Wears His Stardom Lightly'
Saif Ali Khan plays Bhaira in Devara: Part 1. The film is headlined by Jr NTR.

The trailer of Devara: Part 1 was unveiled today and it sees Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan locking horns and sharing screen space for the first time. At the trailer launch held in Mumbai, Saif, who plays Bhaira in the film, described his character as an ‘anti-hero’. Speaking about getting him aboard the magnum opus, Tarak revealed that the decision was nudged by Saif’s performance in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara where he played the menacing Langda Tyagi. Most parts of Devara: Part 1 was shot in Hyderabad and for Saif, working with Tarak was one of the best experiences of his career.

What impressed Saif the most about the RRR star is how he deals with his stardom. Talking about it, he said, “Tarak’s a very easy-going person who wears his stardom lightly, which I like. Offset, he’s a very friendly and welcoming person. We shared a good, lovely laugh even on the first day. He visited me in my van while I was waiting for a shot, which made me feel very comfortable.”

South stars are known for how their hospitable nature. Earlier, Shruti Haasan had spoken about how her Salaar co-star Prabhas brought home-cooked food for her and made her feel special. And Tarak did the same for Saif during their shoot. “He invited me to his home and offered to cook food. He’s one of the most hospitable people I’ve worked with. He’s a really, really nice and very down-to-earth guy,” the Adipurush and Sacred Games actor stated.

Drawing comparisons between Tarak’s off-screen and on-screen persona, Saif pointed out, “But when I saw him shooting on set, he seems to grow in stature and becomes a larger-than-life person in front of the camera, which is a very great star quality to have. And after the cut, he goes back to being a normal and fun person. It has been so nice working with him.”

Devara: Part 1 marks Saif’s debut in the Telugu film industry. And though it was a challenge to learn Telugu, he chose to dub his dialogues. Commenting on the support he received from Tarak for the same, he said, “He has also been very patient [with me] as it was a new language for me and he was so supportive. Looking into his eyes and saying dialogues never made me feel anything except confident.”

But that’s not to say that he wasn’t nervous about shooting for this project, the experience of which made him feel like a debutant. “I had a bit of sweat running down my back and I felt nervous in a very different way. We come from the same country but our states are really different from one another. Going down there was a very exciting experience. It was very kind of Tarak and (Koratala) Siva ji to want me in the movie because movies made in the south recently have been mind-blowing. And to get the chance to act in a film like this made me feel like a newcomer. I love the movie and what I’ve done in it,” he shared.

Devara: Part 1 also stars Janhvi Kapoor and is set for a release on September 27 in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam languages.
