The director along with the cast including Jesse Plemenos, Margaret Qualley, Willem Dafoe, Joe Alwyn and Hong Chau left the location while the ovation was still going on. Lanthimos immediately exited the theatre and did not speak with the audience after the applauding ended, as per Variety.
Kinds of Kindness follows three distinct stories with the star cast playing multiple roles in each one of them. The film offered some absurd scenes that shocked the audience inside the theatre like Chau licking sweat off her followers as a part of a ritual, a man believing his wife is an alien and different forms of sexual activities happening in the same room at the same time, Emma Stone’s break dance and graphical violence throughout the film. Despite all these, the audience at Cannes seemed to have enjoyed Lanthimos’ absurdist comedy.
Ahead of the film’s grand premiere, the star cast along with the director of the film was seen posing on the red carpet. Kinds of Kindness is all set to hit the screens on June 21.
Earlier, Lanthimos’ award-winning film Poor Things, starring Emma Stone and William Dafoe received a 10-minute-long standing ovation at its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The director signed autographs and shook hands with the audience after the Venice premiere.
A few days back, George Miller’s prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, titled Furiosa starring Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead roles received an 8-minute-long standing ovation at the Festival de Cannes 2024.
Ahead of the film’s premiere director Miller said, “We worked very hard on this film, and it will be interesting to see what you make of it, thanks for having us,” as quoted by Hans India.
Furiosa is the fifth film in the renowned Mad Max series with a 168 Million USD budget.
