Music mogul Sean Diddy Combs, who is currently facing charges of sexual harassment and trafficking, is currently in federal custody in Brooklyn, New York, after being denied bail twice. However a source says that many in the industry are still wary of his influence. “He’s so powerful. Everyone was afraid to cross him,” the insider revealed.
“Even though he’s behind bars now, he’s still so powerful. We all knew it even back then,” a source told People. The source explained that Combs’ need for control was often brushed off as part of his creative genius.
Last month, federal authorities indicted the 54-year-old on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting individuals to engage in prostitution. The Last Night rapper has pleaded not guilty to these allegations. If convicted, he could face life in prison, reports People.
“He’s incredibly smart. He knows a lot of people, and he has helped a lot of people — so a lot of people owe him. He knows that,” the source added.
The insider also noted that Combs, who founded Bad Boy Records, is “capable of a lot — much more than people think, even now.”
In addition to his criminal charges, Combs may face up to 120 more lawsuits, as high-profile attorney Tony Buzbee claims many more potential accusers are planning to step forward. These allegations focus on so-called freak-offs, which federal authorities describe as elaborate sex performances involving male sex workers and women allegedly forced or coerced into participating. Combs’ legal team has reportedly denied the claims.
One of the most talked about lawsuits against Diddy was filed in 2023, by R&B singer Cassie Ventura. She accused him of trafficking, rape and physical abuse during their ten-year relationship. Cassie, who was 19 when she signed with Diddy’s label, detailed how she was drawn into his drug-filled lifestyle and subjected to years of mistreatment.
Meanwhile, amid the growing scandal, Diddy’s mother, Janice Small Combs, voiced her support for her son, saying, “My son is not the monster they have painted him to be, and he deserves the chance to tell his side. I can only pray that I am alive to see him speak his truth and be vindicated.”
