Francia Raisa Believes She Has A 'Sibling Bond' With Selena Gomez
Francia Raisa took a moment to reflect on her friendship with Selena Gomez and the evolving nature of their relationship over the years.

In the dazzling world of the film industry, enduring friendships among celebrities are a rare gem. One shining example is the bond between singer Selena Gomez and actress Francia Raisa. Recently, Raisa shed light on their enduring friendship, emphasising the steadfast support they’ve provided each other through life’s “ups and downs.” Speaking at the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women event on January 31, Raisa underlined the longevity of their connection, tracing it back to their initial meeting in 2008. She noted, “I think our support for one another just means everything.”

Acknowledging the occasional breaks in communication, Francia Raisa said their relationship to that of siblings. “We go through our ups and downs.” She explained the resilience of their friendship, saying, “You go a year without talking, and then when you see each other again, it’s like you never went a day without talking. So, that’s where it’s at,” she said.

Describing their friendship as more akin to sisterhood, in conversation with E! News, Raisa said, “I’m not close with her friends. I’m not close with my other two sisters’ friends.” She added, “She calls me and we catch up and we do our thing. We know each other’s friends, but it’s not like that.”

Reflecting on changes in their friendship, the How I Met Your Father star believes it has brought them to a healthier place. She noted, “And to me, that’s evolvement because if it was closer than that, I would feel like it was fake and I don’t mess with that.”

Discussing the period following her kidney donation to Gomez in 2017 during the latter’s battle with lupus, Francia Raisa appreciated Gomez’s consistent support. She stated, “I told her before the surgery, ‘Don’t treat me differently,’ and she hasn’t. And I appreciate it.”

Despite rumours of a rift in November 2022, when Gomez mentioned Taylor Swift as her “only friend in the industry,” the two have rekindled their friendship, evident through their birthday posts for each other and shared outings.

Francia Raisa clarified that their temporary separation was not fueled by animosity but rather a gradual drift apart. In a December interview with USA Today, she explained, “We’ve never really had beef with each other.” Raisa added, “We needed that time apart. Then when you come back together, you’re better people. She and I are still getting to know each other again.”

One of their notable reunions happened over drinks, with Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa enjoying a group dinner at Giorgio Baldi in Los Angeles on August 11, 2023. Raisa reiterated, “There was no beef between us.” The BFFs were seen twinning during the outing.

While their friendship gained public attention later on, Gomez and Raisa actually go way back. They initially met while Gomez worked for Disney, and Raisa was on ABC’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Raisa recalled, “Selena and I were in the same group, and we just clicked.”
