Bollywood has been a host to numerous names from varying backgrounds. Certain names in the industry are related to the royal families of India. One such actress is Riya Sen, who had a very promising start in the industry. However, because of one scandal, everything came crashing down.
Riya Sen is the youngest daughter of actress Moon Moon Sen and the granddaughter of prominent yesteryear actress Suchitra Sen. Through her father Bharat Dev Varma, she is related to the royal family of Tripura. At only five years old, she starred with her mother in the role of her on-screen daughter.
In 1991, she made her official debut in the film industry as a child artist, in the film Vishkanya. Her first commercially successful release was Style, a 2001 film. She shared the screen space with Sharman Joshi, Sahil Khan and Shilpi Sharma. It was made under the direction of N Chandra. In the following years, she starred in various successful releases like Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Qayamat and Jhankaar Beats.
However, in 2005, Riya Sen found herself in the middle of a scandal after an obscene MMS of the actress and her then-boyfriend, Ashmit Patel, was leaked online. It led to the couple’s breakup and Riya accusing Ashmit of leaking the clip himself. Though Riya was popular for her bold scenes and persona, the incident negatively affected her career and it started on a path of derailment.
Post the unfortunate scandal, she starred in around 15 films, across languages like Hindi, Bengali, Telugu and Odia. As per the reports, not one of her projects became a commercial success. Some of her final major releases include the films Hero 420 and Dark Chocolate, which were released in 2016.
In 2017, she made her debut in OTT with the web series Ragini MMS: Returns, in a cameo role. Since then, she has appeared in series like Poison, Mismatch 2, Pati Patni Aur Who and Bekaboo, while appearing in films like Lonely Girl, Love You Hamesha and Death Tale.
