What would get Aamir Khan to attend Bollywood awards? Probably the same thing that would interest his nephew Imran Khan: honouring true talent over glitz. Imran, back in the public eye after over a decade, explained why his family, including his superstar uncle, isn’t interested in film awards. In a recent Chill Sesh episode with comedians Sapan Verma, Raunaq Rajani and Prashasti Singh, Imran said his family doesn’t attend award shows because they didn’t grow up starstruck by the industry’s glamour.
He said, “I grew up in a family of people, who dedicated themselves to the craft but none of them were enamoured by the glitz and the celebrity. What I was always taught was, ‘We take our craft seriously, we put our heart into that, the rest of it is sprinkling on the top, which you shouldn’t be enamoured with.’
Aamir Khan stopped attending Bollywood award shows in the 90s and has been vocal about his stance since then. He told Indianexpress.com that “commercial film awards are of no value” to him. Imran Khan also talked about this in a video, saying that awards are often given to stars just because they are in the city when the event happens. He experienced this after his debut film Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008, when he attended several award shows. “Right after my first film came out, we went through that phase. They don’t address it directly, they will ask, ‘Are you free on such and such date?’ Then if you say maybe, they will follow, ‘Achha agar aap aa rahe hai toh…’ They don’t want to come out and directly talk about that thing. So, there were a bunch of these things which I felt were weird,” he added.
On the work front, Imran Khan is getting ready to return to Bollywood after nine years, which is a big deal for him. According to a report by Peepingmoon.com, Imran is starting a new phase in his career, with support from his uncle and mentor, Aamir Khan. Aamir has played a key role in Imran’s career from the beginning, introducing him as a child actor in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, and later as the main actor in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008.
Recently, Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, dropped the trailer for her upcoming podcast Call Me Hopeful, focusing on mental health discussions. The trailer provides a sneak peek into the podcast’s varied guest lineup, featuring Imran Khan, Vir Das, Mallika Dua and Kenny Sebastian.
