According to reports, Yash Chopra and Pamela Chopra met through a common friend, Romesh Sharma. Pamela had revealed in an interview that Romesh had arranged the meeting of the two, which was very bad. She was working for an airline then and had short hair. Recalling their first meeting, Pamela had said that Yash Chopra did not speak much and there was an embarrassed silence.
Yash Chopra saw Pamela for the first time at a cricket match and at his niece’s wedding sangeet ceremony. After meeting her, Pamela felt that Yash Chopra was not a great person, while the filmmaker felt that seeing Pamela did not ring any bells in his heart. About how things led to their marriage, Pamela once said, “Romesh Sharma’s mother saw me at a wedding in Delhi where I was singing. She felt that I was ideal for Yash Chopra. She was not wrong because our wedding was wonderful. She called up Mumbai Bhabhi ji (BR Chopra’s wife) and told her about me.”
The duo tied the knot in 1970. The couple is survived by two sons, Aditya Chopra, born in 1971, and Uday Chopra, born in 1973.
Yash Chopra made his directorial debut with Dhool Ka Phool in 1959 under the banner of his production house, Yash Raj Films. He died in 2012 due to dengue disease. He was 80 years old then. Pamela died last year on 20 April 2023 due to pneumonia.
