Ishita Dutta On Postpartum Depression: 'Used To Cry For Hours Without Any Reason'
Ishita Dutta and Vatsal Sheth welcomed their first child in July last year.

Ishita Dutta, known for her role in the film Drishyam, became a mother for the first time in July last year. In a recent vlog, the actress opened up about her experience with postpartum depression. She highlighted a common misconception that suggests women who have had multiple children are immune to postpartum depression.

“Today I am going to talk about postpartum depression. But here, many women will comment that we have given birth to 5 children each, we have never faced anything like this. These are all the scoundrels of today. But please forgive me. We go through this and we’re not just talking out of the blue. We have felt it. So please, if you have a daughter, daughter-in-law or friend who is feeling emotional, please understand. There are many women and mothers who have gone or are going through this. It has happened to me too. I used to cry for hours without any reason. I felt very bad. But when my family saw me, they asked me to go out and take a break for some time. Even if only for 10 minutes but he used to send me out," Ishita said.

In her vlog, Ishita also shared the unwavering support she received from her husband, actor Vatsal Sheth, during her challenging postpartum period. She recounted how Vatsal would encourage her to take breaks and go out, understanding the importance of self-care. However, Ishita admitted that initially, she was hesitant to leave her newborn.

“Vatsal was like, ‘I have to take you out.’ And initially I didn’t go. I used to think, how can I leave my baby and go? I can’t. And then he said, don’t worry, he’s going to be fine. There are so many people at home. We used to feed him and leave with family members. Sometimes, we used to leave and if there was a call that Vaayu is crying, we used to come back quickly as we didn’t go far from the house," she said.

She concluded her vlog by stating that her postpartum depression had been very difficult and credited her husband and her family for their unwavering support throughout the journey. She advised the viewers that if they come across with any woman in their family struggling with post-partum depression, then they should understand the situation and offer her support.
