Prabhas recently collaborated with Diljit Dosanjh for the first time for Kalki 2898 AD’s Bhairava Anthem. In a recent chat, choreographer Pony Verma opened up about working with the two superstars and how they decided for Prabhas to sport a turban in the song. She said that while Prabhas was unsure about the idea, Diljit loved it.
Speaking to Bollyywood Now, Pony said that she wanted Prabhas to have Diljit’s Coachella look. She said, “I thought he (Prabhas) will look amazing as a Sardar. I told my producers about it but they were like this is the promotion of Kalki, why are you making him a Sardar? They said this does not go with our film so I said this will be like a cherry on the cake when they walk as Sardars with a swagger.”
She said, “Diljit immediately liked my idea… Prabhas was like ‘Are you sure?’ Then there was a thought that South people shouldn’t feel bad. So I said they won’t. This is a culmination. This is a positive approach that North and South are coming together.”
Giving due importance to Diljit and Prabhas’ fans from North India and South India was a tough challenge. Pony said, “North shouldn’t feel like they are given more importance and South shouldn’t feel like they are given more importance, both should look at par. That was the biggest challenge for me.”
“Diljit was thinking that Prabhas is a big superstar so he must not get suppressed. Prabhas shouldn’t feel like Diljit has more lyrics so he is getting surpassed. I just told Diljit that you have come here like a king and I will see to it that you look like a king. Prabhas has a huge fan following and he is a big star so if we do something that goes against his image, his fans will make my life difficult,” she said. She added that both Prabhas and Diljit were very pleased to meet each other.
Meanwhile, Kalki 2898 AD has emerged as one of the biggest films of 2024. The Telugu film, which stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, has earned a whopping Rs 700 crore worldwide in just one week. Kalki 2898 AD’s production house, Vyjayanthi Movies confirmed that the film has surpassed the Rs 700 Cr mark in the film’s opening week.
The film heavily draws inspiration from Mahabharat. The film is set in a dystopian future and revolves around four people — a pregnant woman named Sumathi (Deepika Padukone), who is said to be carrying a child that is the 10th avatar of Vishnu; the immortal Ashwatthama (played by Amitabh Bachchan) who has been tasked to protect the unborn child; a ruthless villain named Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan), who wants the child dead for he knows the child will be the end of the baddie; and Bhairava (Prabhas), a bounty hunter who would sell anyone in return of money.
