The trailer begins by introducing viewers to Kaashi, a distant, elevated land offering plentiful resources like food, water, and shelter. People from various regions are seen striving to reach this haven, seeking aid from its sovereign, played by Saswata Chatterjee. As the sole ruler, he demands complete allegiance from all.

As the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that a prophecy foretells the birth of a child destined to overthrow the king and usher in a new era. This revelation leads us to Deepika Padukone’s character, who is pregnant with this prophesized child. Recognizing the threat to his reign, the king places a bounty on her head.

Prabhas’ character, Bhairava, emerges as the foremost hunter with an unmatched success rate, claiming it is his destiny to capture Deepika’s character. However, unknown to him, Amitabh Bachchan’s Ashwatthama is determined to protect her. The tension builds as viewers are left to wonder if Ashwatthama will succeed in saving her or if Bhairava will fulfill his mission. The trailer ends with a tantalizing glimpse of Kamal Haasan, adding to the anticipation.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Prabhas, revealed that Kalki 2898 AD is “made for international audiences.” He stated, “The whole film is made for international audiences. That’s why it’s the highest budget, and we’ve got the best actors in the country.” Discussing his title as a pan-Indian star, he added, “We were hearing for the first time people calling me ‘pan-Indian’. That doesn’t really affect me, but it’s a good feeling to think that people around the country like me now.”

Previously, Nag Ashwin opened up about the timeline of the film. At the Synapse 2024 event in Gurgaon, Nag Ashwin revealed that the film’s timeline will commence with Mahabharat. He stated, “The film starts with Mahabharat and ends in 2898 AD. It spans 6000 years in time. We tried to create worlds, imagining what they would be like while still keeping it Indian, and not making it look like Blade Runner. The film begins 6000 years behind 2898 AD is 3102 BC, which is when the last avatar of Krishna is believed to have passed.”
