Karan Johar’s Emotional Message As Dharma Turns 44, ‘Keeping The Magic Of Movies Alive’

Dharma Productions, the Karan Johar-owned production company, completes 44 years today, October 8. Established in 1976 by Yash Johar, its first production venture was Dostana featuring Amitabh Bachchan. Thee film was released in 1980. Over the years, the company has delivered several blockbuster hits like Agneepath, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho, My Name Is Khan, Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, among others. To mark the special occasion, KJo took to social media and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the audiences for “keeping the magic of movies alive.”

On Tuesday, Dharma Productions posted a montage video featuring glimpses of some of its popular projects on Instagram. Karan Johar re-shared the video on his stories and wrote in the caption, “44 years of a place that I call home… @dharmamovies. Thank you for the love over all these years, for keeping the magic of movies alive with us! Today truly is a very special day.”

The clip featured glimpses from films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, 2 States, Agneepath, Jugjugg Jeeyo, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Student of the Year, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Kalank, Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Dostana, Bad Newz, Ok Jaanu, Brahmastra, Yodha, Shershaah, Raazi, Hasee To Phasee, Wake Up Sid, Kapoor and Sons and the upcoming action thriller Jigra.

The video caption reads, “From the big screen to your heart: 44 years of emotions, stories, and priceless moments! Thank you for being with us every step of the road.”

Upcoming projects under Dharma Productions include Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina starrer Jigra which will be releasing in theatres on October 11, Varun Dhawan and Jahnvi Kapoor’s Sunny Sanskaari Ki Tusli Kumari, Ibrahim Ali Khan and Kajol’s Sarzameen and Ayushmann Khurrana –Sara Ali Khan’s next untitled film.

Talking about Karan Johar, his last directorial venture was Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani which featured an ensemble cast of Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.

He is currently gearing up for his next project, which is reportedly an action film. However, the deets about his next directorial is yet to be revealed.
