Malayalam survival thriller drama Manjummel Boys, written and directed by Chidambaram, was released in the cinema halls on February 22 in Malayalam and Telugu. It shattered many box-office records and also garnered critical acclaim from many critics and users. Now, it will reportedly stream on the OTT Platform Disney+ Hotstar on May 3. An official announcement, regarding the OTT release of Manjummel Boys is yet to be made by the makers or the streaming platform. The movie stars an ensemble cast of Soubin Shahir, Ganapathi, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, and others. Parava Films has produced Manjummel Boys.

Some time back, the internet was abuzz with the reports of Manjummel Boys premiering on the OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar on April 5. This news, however, turned out to be false and a movie analyst tweeted that the film is most likely to be streamed on the OTT platform on Twitter.

From February 22 to March 11, Manummel Boys minted Rs 89.15 crore at the box office and Rs 130 crore globally. As of March 21, the movie already garnered Rs 200 crore gross worldwide. It made history by becoming the first Malayalam film to collect Rs 200 crore and emerged to be the third highest-grossing Indian movie in 2024.

Directing this superhit film was an arduous task for the filmmaker Chidambaram. He talked about his experience of shooting the film in an exclusive interview with OTT Play. He said, “It was a physically exhausting film- mentally as well. We were shooting in Kodaikanal at low temperatures. Our shooting windows were also limited, as in we had to start by 5 am and wrap it up by 9 am because we were shooting in a forest and it was also a high-traffic tourist place. Those limitations were there. Additionally, the actors had to perform while being drenched in the cold rain. We were away from home for a long time and that also works on your mind. So, it was physically and psychologically draining.”

In another interview with Film Companion, Chidambaram said that he has used 95 per cent of the real incidents as told by survivors without dramatisation.
