Miley Cyrus reflected on how it took over two decades for her to bring home her first Grammy.

Miley Cyrus is officially a Grammy winner. The singer kicked off the ceremony with a win for Best Pop Solo Performance for her hit “Flowers,” taking the stage to accept the award from Mariah Carey. She later also took home the prize for Best Record of the Year. While this came as a historic achievement for Cyrus, the pop star revealed that she felt Grammy didn’t take her seriously in the past. The 31-year-old also reflected on how it took over two decades for her to bring home her first Grammy.

In a recent conversation, Miley Cyrus opened up about her achievement earlier this year. “No shade, but I’ve been doing this for 20 years, and this is my first time actually being taken seriously at the Grammys,” she remarked while talking to W Magazine.

“I’ve had a hard time figuring out what the measurement is there, because if we want to talk stats and numbers, then where was I? And if you want to talk, like, impact on culture, then where was I? This is not about arrogance. I am proud of myself,” she added.

In the same interview, the pop star also spoke about her Flowers performance at the Grammy Awards 2024, explaining that it was a “dream” for her to show up to the ceremony with “childlike confidence.”

“Like when a kid isn’t scared to just dive into the deep end or do a backflip because they don’t know what’s on the other side. My 12-year-old self got to come out and play, while my 31-year-old self was in Bob Mackie with big hair,” she added.

Notably, Cyrus lit up the stage at the 2024 Grammys, singing her chart-topping hit Flowers from her album, Endless Summer Vacation. She chose a silver Bob Mackie minidress paired with Beers jewellery, making the audience go dancing to her performance. The same night, she won the awards for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Record of the Year.

“There was a little boy who wanted a butterfly for his birthday. So his parents gave him a butterfly net, and he was so excited. He went outside in the sun and started swinging and swinging. But with no luck, he sat down on the ground. He finally let go, and he surrendered. He was okay that he was not going to capture this beautiful butterfly. Right when he did, the butterfly came and landed right on the tip of his nose. And this song, ‘Flowers,’ is my butterfly. Thank you,” she said in a part of her speech.
